Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your flight to Arequipa (flight not included).
Upon arrival, we pick you up and transfer you to your hotel to settle in.
You have the afternoon at leisure to explore the historic city from your centrally located hotel.
DAY 03 AREQUIPA – COLCA (B)
In the early morning we leave Arequipa and head towards the Colca valley. After a 3 hour drive you arrive at Chivay, Colca‘s most important town where you’ll make a short stop to explore the local market.
In the afternoon you can visit the nearby thermal springs of La Calera. (entrance fee not included)
DAY 04 COLCA – PUNO (B)
Early morning drive to an observation point, located between Maca and Cabanaconde, one of the deepest parts of the canyon. Here, you find the perfect spot to look down 1,200 m (3,937 ft) into the canyon at Mirador Cruz del Condor. It’s here that the legendary condor, the bird with the largest wingspan in the world, can be seen rising and circling on the morning thermals, silhouetted against the magnificent backdrop of the mountain scenery. Afterwards we stop at some of the picturesque towns en route to visit their colonial churches. Afterwards we start our journey towards Puno at the Titicaca Lake, which we will reach in the evening.
DAY 05 PUNO (B,L)
Our excursion by boat starts with a visit to the floating reed Islands of the Uros Indians followed by the Luquina peninsula. Locals in this less known area are not visited by mass tourism yet and will introduce you to daily activities and customs of their Quechua community. After visiting one of the forty Uros floating islands, an Andean lunch is served at Luquina. The views gained from this tucked away spot are the best that the lake’s offers.
DAY 06 PUNO – CUSCO (B,L)
Early morning you will be picked up from your hotel. A ten-hour road trip takes you through picturesque Andean landscapes dotted by small villages and herds of llamas and vicunas to your final destination Cusco
From the La Raya pass (4,335 m/ 14,172 ft) we can enjoy a panoramic view of the snow-capped Andes. We then stop at Raqchi to visit the Viracocha Temple. This was the only Inca temple where clay was used in addition to stone as building material. The most impressive features are the cylindrical columns covered by fine clay layers. We also visit the famous church of Andahuaylillas, built in the 17th century by the Jesuits. Due to its wall and ceiling frescoes it is also known as the Sistine Chapel of the Andes.
Lunch is included at Feliphon Restaurant
DAY 07 CUSCO (B)
Morning at leisure.
This afternoon you walk through the major sites of interest in Cusco. You visit the famous cathedral with its magnificently carved woodwork, ornate altar and many hundreds of canvases from the 17th-century Cusco Painting School. You continue exploring the cultural wealth of Cusco at the Temple of the Sun where we witness the incredible masonry of the Incas, an engineering feat that remains an enigma. Afterwards you walk along Hatunrumiyoc Street named after the 12-angled stone clearly visible in the remaining walls of what used to be Inca Roca’s Palace. You make a last stop in San Blas artisan quarter. Its steeped cobblestone alleys not only offer spectacular views of the city but are lined with workshops and galleries, a great way to soak in Cusco’s artistic atmosphere.
DAY 08 CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY (B)
This morning you will be picked up from your hotel for your tour to the Pisaq market in the Sacred Valley. Originally a place where people from remote communities used to barter their products, Pisaq has evolved to one of South America’s most famous souvenir markets. Make sure to sample some ’empanadas’ baked in traditional clay ovens.
Afterwards you continue to the town of Urubamba, where your hotel for this night is located.
DAY 09 SACRED VALLEY – AGUAS CALIENTES (B,D)
Morning transfer to nearby Ollantaytambo, where you will visit the town center which still maintains the original structure dating back to the Inca era. You will also have a panoramic view of the ruins from the town (entrance fee to visit the ruins is not included).
You then head to Ollantaytambo’s train station. The Voyager train ride train takes you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas up to Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival a small coach takes you up the steep roads to the entrance of the citadel. For centuries Machu Picchu remained undiscovered by the Spaniards and has only been found in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. During a guided tour you will experience the uniqueness of the location and the genius that went into its construction, making this Inca site one of the seven new wonders of the world.
