There are plenty of good reasons to travel to Central America. Volcanic landscapes, virgin forests, the Pacific coast or the Caribbean coast… Not to mention that wild nature is much more present than in our country. Populations, colors, everything is mixed, alive and colorful. Another strong argument: it is easy to travel in Central America and jump from country to country, because their areas are small and the distances are short.

La Boquilla is an afro-descendant fishermen village that for more than 200 years and, until today, they continue to preserve their ancestral traditions, where drums play a leading role. Today we invite you to an exciting tour to observe and play these Afro Colombian wild drums in their habitat. Our 1-hour Drum workshop is a unique opportunity to connect yourself with the typical rhythms of Afro Colombian folk music such as Cumbia, Mapalé and Champeta,.the music of Cartagena! This musical genre was born in the afro-descendant zones of Cartagena, influenced by African and Antillean rhythms. Come and enjoy a 3-hour tour in which you can learn about the origins of the champeta and its history with this music’s icon Charles King, walking through the passages of the typical and popular market of Bazurto where he saw his first steps to fame and learned the “champetuo”. Day 4: Cartagena, USA
Your last day will focus on food starting with the Bazurto market, a traditional marketplace offering fish, meat, fruit and clothing, barely visited by tourists although it’s as important in Cartagena as La Popa Convent or San Felipe Castle. Gastronomy is an important part of the local culture and the Cartageneros are proud of their Caribbean cuisine. The history of Escobar and the “Cartel of Medellín” is a unique example of how organized crime impacted a whole country. During the 1980s Escobar controlled huge parts of the international cocaine traffic giving him an impressive financial revenue that allowed the creation of a powerful network of corruption and social control over the population of Medellín. In the early 1990s, when the hunt for Pablo Escobar took place, the head of Medellín’s drug cartel was at its peak, but it came to its end with his death in 1993. Get some insight on the historical dimension of the phenomenon of Pablo Escobar visiting some of the most emblematic sights of Escobar’s life. Return to the hotel for overnight. [B]
Day 5: Medellin
Medellín – the “City of Eternal Spring” – located in the Andean highlands of Antioquia, is nowadays the most innovative city of Latin America. Explore the famous Botero Plaza downtown with an exhibition of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero, whose sculptures have become a landmark of the city. Take the Metro Cable up to Santo Domingo, which was once a notorious area of gang violence in Medellín. The cable car was constructed to make the inner city more accessible to people from the outskirts and allows visitors a glimpse into the lives of the marginalized population. At the Comuna 13 district with its unique escalators you observe another innovative project that improved the quality of life of the people of Medellín. Return to the hotel for overnight. [B/L/S]

This tour gives you an insight on history and daily life in this area and the importance of street art for social communication and identity. The museum “Casa de la Memoria” is an research center of the urban conflict of the last decades and offers exclusive insights into this controversial part of the city’s history. Unlike other memory museums “Casa de la Memoria” is concerned with the memory of a conflict still alive. It is nowadays a place of hope and a landmark of social transformation in Medellín. Some free time to rest and relax until this evening’s venture into the famous tango culture of Medellín visiting the city’s tango hot spots. Follow the footprints of Carlos Gardel who turned Medellín into the biggest tango metropolis outside of Argentina. Get to know the Tango Culture of Medellín and be impressed by that little-known cultural part of Colombian dance and music and experience Medellín in a different way. Return to the hotel vor overnight. [B/L]
Day 8: Medellin, USA
The Tejo game is probably one of the most authentic games of the Colombian culture. This tour is perfect to get closer to Colombian culture while drinking a few beers and having a lot of fun. The origin of Tejo is pre-Columbian – the Colombian native indigenous people used to play Tejo as a ritual long before the Spaniards arrival in the 16th century. Back in the days, the natives played it with discs made of gold and competed, according to the legend, for the love of a woman. One had to throw a golden disc as close as possible into a golden ring located at a certain distance. As it is the game with the longest tradition in Colombia, it has become a national sport nowadays. Today’s Tejo game includes gunpowder and usually a lot of beer, and the modern discs (tejo) are made of metal. The ring is located in a corner filled with clay and decorated with papers filled with gunpowder – this makes it the most explosive and funny game in Colombia. After the tour you’ll be driven to José Maria Córdova Airport in Medellin to board your connecting flight back home. [B]
